Registering/booking for the Iyengar classes

The Iyengar classes are grouped into 5 week courses entitled "Restorative class: rest and relax". Our members also need to register with the Sheffield Yoga Centre and book on each course, however the classes can be attended on a "drop-in" basis. A copy of the registration form can be downloaded  here .  (Please remember to ignore the payment information and put Sheffield Yoga for ME/CFS at the top).

Sheffield Yoga for ME/CFS pays for any fees and can provide free transport.

About the Iyengar Yoga

The Iyengar yoga sessions are specially adapted and suitable for those with ME/CFS. These sessions use therapeutic methods to give people the chance to be in classical yoga poses. The poses (optional) are fully supported with the use of props such as blankets and bolsters so the participant can passively enjoy the pose. The sessions start and conclude with guided relaxation, deepening the capacity to breathe. Participants are encouraged to keep within their own limits. Much of the time is spent lying down, but there is some sitting.

About the Iyengar Teachers

Frances Homewood is a highly experienced yoga teacher who has been teaching yoga for over 20 years. She is trained in the methods of BKS Iyengar, with whom she has studed many times in Pune, India. This training included therapeutic yoga. She now runs the  Sheffield Yoga Centre, where she holds weekly therapeutic classes. The other teachers, Joan, Mandy and Emma are also qualified and experienced in therapeutic Iyengar yoga.
